I have had this 8500 x50 radar for about 3 weeks. I love it. I really pay attention to the alerts. My previous snake detector was giving me so many false alerts that I wouldn't pay attention. Only problem I have with the radar is the top case has been cracking with the sun and heat.

Two things, first I would get with Escort to have that repaired since the unit is only 3 weeks old. Next, when not in use take that unit down so it does not just sit and bake in the sun.

c0ol2,
Please send me a private message with your name and address and the serial number of this X50 so that we can take care of replacing it. You are also welcome to call our service department at the number in my signature below. You didn't happen to use a chemical cleaner on it did you? If you did then we will still cover the replacement of your X50. We would just like any information that may help us determine the cause of it. I apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your assistance.

My brand new Black from Best Buy after literally 3 DAYS, pic below. No chemicals, not wiped with anything, the only thing it was exposed to was heat from being mounted on my windshield, for 3 days. (Half of which were nights of course), so really it's 1.5 days at most of actual sun light. It goes without saying a radar detector must be able to not fall apart in 3 days on your windshield.
And yet, all other Escorts me and my wife have owned, in identical circumstances, were fine after being mounted 24/7 for literally years at a time, not one crack. I wonder if switching from the gray to black finish has something to do with it. ![]() |

I would bet the case is fine, but the paint is cracking. Bet the black paint/finish expands in the summer heat and cracks.

This is not to be expected. It should be able to the heat/sun from being mounted in a vehicle's windshield.
