Default Replaced/New SmartCord for ZW5 Pairing

How do you pair a replacement SmartCord to a ZW5 Interface that is already previously paired to a cord.

My situation:
I bought a Direct Connect ZW5 and mid-shipment decided I wanted a SmartCord setup instead. The unit I receive was paired in the box with the Direct Connect radio it shipped with.

I can't get it to connect with the SmartCord Radio I later received separately following the re-pairing instructions in the user instructions:
1. Disconnect the Max 360c
2. Plug in the SmartCord
3. Paper Clip the reset hole in the radio in the car on the SmartCord for 5 seconds. Red light flashes.
4. When flashing stops, it's paired. BUT ...
Flashing never stops.

I've tried power cycling the ZW5 Interface and the SmartCord again and the whole process. Same result.

I assume this would be the same outcome if I simply lost my SmartCord and bought a replacement.

How do you pair a replacement SmartCord?

My guess is that the ZW5 Interface has to be reset/cleared first to Unpair it from the original in order to pair it to a new radio on the new SmartCord? If so, then how do you reset the ZW5 Interface?

If my guess is wrong, then what am I doing wrong? Why can't I pair the SmartCord to the ZW5 Interface?

Is there any way to know the ZW5 is up and running? My voltmeter says it's getting 12V ok.

When you pair a new ZW5 smart cord once you have a flashing red light, as you note, you need to plug the cord back into the radar detector for the pairing to finish and the red light will go out. They don’t reference this last step in any post I have seen.
