I'm not sure I am staying on topic here, but this looked like a good place to butt in. For all the years with my 9500ix, my MAX, and now my 360 (Which is performing like a real champ) I have never received any warning for speed traps, speed cameras, or anything else. I have marked a few locations for myself, and they work fine, but never any alerts which the defender database would provide.

Is this unusual? Never got such an alert with all 3 RD's; any advice appreciated.

All depends where you drive, as some areas may not use them. I assume then you have never actuelly seen one where you drive?

The speed traps, speed cameras, RLCs, airplane-enforced zones, etc. are maintained in Defender. If you have a Defender subscription, these locations can be added to your three detectors (if you are running without Escort Live). If you are running EL (in "premium" mode), these locations are pulled down from the cloud in real-time, even if you don't have a Defender subscription.

To the best of my knowledge, all current users of EL are receiving "premium" service.
