Default TSR upgrade for 9500ci

hey folks,
this morning we were greeted with an announcement that Traffic Sensor Rejection is being built into several escorts, including the 9500 ci.

i called the escort support hotline and was informed that the 9500 ci cannot be upgraded. after checking to make sure, the operator said that it is possible, and that in fact the TSR upgrade can be downloaded, so no removal of the unit is required.

my questions:

1. is the aobve true? and if so, how can we download it? does it come with the Redlight database? or some other download?

2. is it a free upgrade to existing 9500ci owners without the feature (i checked preferences in my unit and it is indeed missing), or does it require payment?

3. last question: how many traffic sensors using radar are out there, approximately? and what band do they show up on (a google and wikipedia search did not provide any quick answers)?

I'm glad that you ended up getting the correct information from our call center representative.

1) The M3 platform used in the 9500ci can have TSR installed via software (firmware) updates. Simply use Detector Tools to update your 9500ci's software (bottom button on main screen) and you should have TSR.

2) It is free for the 9500ci because it can be installed via USB firmware updates. Passport models 9500i and 9500ix use the M4 platform which cannot have any receiver code installed via USB firmware updates. These models, as well as other non-USB-updatable models, need to have TSR software installed by us for a small fee.

3) I have absolutely no idea how many there are but one single provider of these sensors, SpeedInfo, has told us that they will have over 1000 installed in Ohio alone by the end of 2010. Our latest TSR campaign is in response to detector users complaining about excessive K band falses on highways where they never had them before. Here is a list of SpeedInfo's coverage but I'm pretty sure it is outdated because there are many locations in Ohio with K band traffic flow sensors that are not listed
