Default 9500ix does not warn on Laser

I bought this unit about 3 years ago, to warn me when a traffic cop is operating in my vicinity. I really bought it for the advance warning of red light cameras, which is a huge problem in my town. As everyone knows they deliberately reduce the Amber light duration to rake in the fines.

Fast forward to current date.
I have not once picked up any warning where the unit detected a Laser in operation. I get KA. K, and X band all the time. I travel 50 miles daily on a toll road that are heavily patrolled by the state troopers, and I see at least one or two cars being pulled over on a daily basis. And yes, they harvest using the PRO LASER LF08272. And yes it was line of sight.

(No, nothing was adjusted or disabled on the Escort. it was supposed to warn me on Auto setting.)

Well when I needed the protection I paid for in good faith, NADA, ZIP, ZERO.
I don't usually speed, but due to specific circumstances I may have exceeded the speed limit.

All I know was when the cruiser was sitting in my rearview mirror with his lights on, siren blaring.
My "expensive" 9500ix did not warn me neither protected me.

Even the trooper was surprised that the Escort did not blink. Yes, he noticed, but luckily in my state it is not illegal to operate a detector.

Then to add insult to injury, my fine will not be covered by the manufacturer since it is older than 1 year.

Do I feel disappointed? Sure. Will I be moving on to a different brand, possibly yes.

What is left to say?

If your 9500ix would had warned you, it would have been too late to slow down anyway as your speed would have already been recorded. As you can read on this (and other RD forums) any radar detector's laser capabilities is for the most part a ticket notifier. To attempt to be protected from lasers you will need laser shifters.

The laser beam that the LEO is shooting at your license plate or headlights is so narrow in diameter that it is shear chance that it swipes the RD's laser sensor, especially if you mount it high. It's light waves do not spread or bounce the way radar's radio waves do. We all wish this were not the case, but unfortunately it is.

Review this sticky post about the differences between detecting Laser vs Radar. Additionally, older Detector designs may not be able to detect some newer Laser guns.

Sorry to hear about your speeding citation. Unfortunately a detector alone is not an ideal solution against laser. The laser beam is quite narrow.

Shifters are the best solution. They give you enough time to slow down, you then turn them off to allow a speed reading. Note that laser shifters are prohibited in some areas.

The Escort Live smartphone app's crowd sourced alerts may have also helped you in this situation. You can also wirelessly connect your 9500ix to Escort Live using an optional SmartCord Live cord.

You need to read up on how laser works, it's nothing at all like radar.
