Angry Stolen 9500ix

So I just went to wal-mart and when I came out my 9500ix was gone. I thought I had locked the car. They didn't take my gps or anything else in the car - just the detector. I am in the middle of a divorce and money is tight. I also drive a great deal for work and need a detector.

I just got finished speaking with a Sheriff making out a police report. He said, "let me get this right - you are reporting the theft of something that helps you not get tickets?" I said, it is legal. He wasn't overly nice about it.

And to make things worse - the person who stole it left a new can of Skoal long cut in my front seat. Damn rednecks! This plain sucks!!!

Is there anyway that the detector can be tracked?

So sorry to hear you were robbed. What a ****ty thing to experience.

The detector doesn't transmit anything so the answer to the question I think you are asking is no, there is no 'Lojack' type way to track the unit.

Call Escort, tell them your detector was stolen and give them the serial number. If it ever gets sent in, they'll snag it so it doesn't go back to the person who sent it in.

I've also read here that Escort will accept the police report on the stolen detector in lieu of a detector being traded in on a new purchase. In other words, if you purchase another detector through Escort, you'll get a bit of a discount on the purchase price if you have the police report about the stolen unit.

Again - so sorry this happened. And that Sheriff sounds like a bonehead but I wouldn't imagine any officers being enthusiastic about RD's.

Did the bonehead Sheriff show any interest in trying to get fingerprints from this?

Good luck...and thank what few lucky stars you have that it was just the detector and not everything in the car.

Default Thank you.

Dan, thanks.

I asked him. He said I touched it so it is contaminated as is my door handle. I said yes, but you know what my prints would be - sorry, still contaminated.

How the hell would I see that my detector 99% without getting in the car first if I am not looking for it to be gone?

Someone else suggested cameras at wal-mart.

Just sucks. Picked up another one today at best buy on sale - blue display this time. But still expensive replacement. I had to pick one up quick;y as I drive most of the time.

You're very welcome. And again, sorry this just added to some hard times for you.

The cameras at Walmart are something the Sheriff should be looking into. From what you've described, he doesn't seem to be a font of compassion. But he needs to do his job so follow up with him and ask if the cameras showed anything.

Glad you got the detector on sale. Maybe you saved enough that the discount Escort provides with the police report would be a wash.

Please do call Escort with the serial number of the stolen unit. My understanding is that they will confiscate units sent in for service if the unit has been reported stolen.

Good luck and keep us posted if anything comes of the police investigation.

Dan

Please do not speak for us. We do not "snag" anything from anyone. We are not law enforcement, we do not have the authority to confiscate items that are sent to us. And please watch your language on our forum. Thank you

Understood.

I did not intend to slur or slander but my poor choice of wording apparently makes it seem so.

So please accept my apologies.

I thought I'd read somewhere that detectors reported stolen would be confiscated if returned for service. Obviously that is wrong.

Again, please accept my apologies. The things you mentioned (quoted above) will not happen again.

Dan

I guess that has changed over the years. I remember back when the first Escort detector came out someone I know got theirs back when it was sent in for repair and had been reported stolen to Escort. Oh well.

Yeah, I thought I'd read that in a post somewhere. But ER's right - not my place to say unless maybe I was 110% sure because it was posted on their website somewhere.

I would call Escort to tell them if my detector got stolen but with a little luck, that is one phone call I hope I never have to make.

I registered mine when I received it. When it was stolen I reported it to the police. I never anticipated Escort would do anything about it other than to honor my registration by not allowing updates without a change in my email/name/profile

So maybe this is a good time to ask ER - ER, do you recommend someone call Escort to report a stolen detector?
