"With the Escorts I would leave POP off because it actually hinders performance and POP is not used here in Indiana. I have yet to see POP radar in use. Most 33.8 radar here is the MPH Python II or III and it is not even POP capable. Indiana State Police have some 33.8 radar and they are also using the Python II or III on that frequency. You are more likely to run into Kustom 35.5 Ka from ISP."

So is he correct? Would POP ON actually decrease or hinder performance? Would the MAX still be able to succesfully ALERT to I/O and QT radar?

Thank you for your responses in advance! Seriously, feel free to comment, as I am still learning.

Thanks again,
davidleeandrews yet

Some good info on POP.

Yep, the Max is fast, but not fast enough to scan/step through the whole RF spectrum and catch the 67mS pop without a little help with POP On (multiple rescanning at 33.8Ghz). However, it is fast enough to catch the quickest I/O shot which is more crucial.

I still love that video of Nine's!

Since the number of POP equipped radar guns used nation wide is very very small (I have heard less then 5%) to me it's a non-issue. With a Max however if your concerned about it then turn it on. It will not slow the detector down. As long as you can deal with the increased number of false alarms by doing so your good to go.

I run with POP ON, and I can count on a single hand the number of falses. They are truly very rare.

More 33.6-33.9 regular KA alert falses(usually daily) than POP

No one said anything about levels here too.

Is there another level here... is there?

Buck, Greg, CantDrive... anyone?
By know you guys must know all the secret passageways and handshakes.

If there isn't one hopefully the LEO that reads this info gets what he/she deserves, like confused or a Cobra RD from Walmart for his or her birthday.

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much.
South of the Mason Dixon Line POP is something you drink.

Let's keep it that way!

I still don't know how to read you STi, I assume on this post its just a little joking sarcasm. This site has some very good people on it. Once and awhile it gets heated. You know there is no levels except for CJ and Nine who have vast knowledge and I have ticked them off.
They will not respond to PM,s from me at least. And I have said some dumb things.
But I am a Shoot From The Hip type of Guy Sarcasm muddies up the water especially since there is no Handshake.

Of more importance though, if you turn POP on then you will get regular POP false alerts from nearby radar detectors. Radar detectors leak radar-like emissions which are normally filtered out. Because POP mode bursts are so fast these processes are disabled with POP detection on.

POP mode radar is very rare and only used to preview speed then normal, easily detected, radar mode should switched on to issue a citation.

Because Max scans all radar frequencies so fast, it is fast enough to catch QT and IO with POP off or on. Here's a video from a user bench QT testing Max with several radar guns demonstrating this. It didn't miss a shot. You can find his full review in the Passport Max section of the forum, the sticky titled, "The Max Experience".

Just remember that the initial target of POP, QT or IO will be alerted but their speed will also be measured. Your only defense against them is detecting someone ahead of you being shot or through networked alerts from other users who recently reported them such as with the Escort Live smartphone app.
Also, thank you EscortRadar for your awesome information here! Kudos to you!

I turn my pop off. I've been getting some POP falses it seems. I'm not sure what they are from, but not once have I seen a LEO and POP will stay locked for a bit then go off. I haven't seen anyone use pop in Texas anyways so until the next firmware update I will not turn on pop mode.

Stimuli...I blushed. What a nice thing to say.

Buck..did you expect a solid response? Do you really care who responds to you.? I think Not. Anyone here to help, but does not respond to help requests....not much of a help huh?

I'm sorry..I said I was out of here. Now I am. Leave me alone
