Question GPS not working

I recently was given a 9500XI by a friend of mine. He got an upgraded on with the Laser detection built into the car.

Anyway, it was working fine (although I hate the blue LEDs, are blurry at night). Then I noticed stored locations were going off again. And new items weren't being stored. Couldn't figure out why, then I saw the unit shut off while driving. After going through the manual, and exercising my brain, I realized the GPS never stopped flashing. So, of course it wasn't storing anything, it didn't know where it was. And it shut off, because it didn't know it was moving.

Anyway, I registered the unit, and downloaded the PC app for it. I made sure the firmware was up to date. Didn't help. My normal Garmin GPS works fine, and my car isn't high-end enough to have the metallized windows. The Escort was working fine when I first got it, and for a couple of weeks. Then it stopped. The unit itself detects the radar fine, so it is just the GPS. I have unplugged it several times, and tried turning the GPS off and on, no help.

Any ideas?

I also have a Cobra I was using before, and it is interesting the differences. The Cobra shows all radar speed limit signs as K band, and cops as Ka band. The Excort shows about half the speed signs as Ka band and half as K band. So if I have a Ka band, I have to look for speed signs as well as cops. Just an interesting diff.

If the top of your 9500ix has a clear view of the sky then it sounds like your 9500ix's GPS chip is malfunctioning. Please call us to set up servicing it. The number is in my signature below.

If the 9500ix isn't detecting police much further than your Cobra then there may be something else wrong with the radar detection portion of your 9500ix. Our detectors are known to be excellent at frequency discrimination (identifying the true frequency that radar is operating on). You can use "SpecMeter" display mode to see the actual frequency or "ExpertMeter" display mode to see multiple signals along with their strengths.

Do not operate both detectors at the same time for comparison purposes. They will interfere with each other causing poor performance.

Escort Radar customer service is available from 9am-5:00pm Eastern Time Mon-Fri at 1-800-543-1608 or you can fill out a repair form and we will contact you.
