Default Max Automute option needs tweaking

I updated to 1.4 (or at least 2 days ago I UPDATED ALL). One thing I will still say is the AutoMute cuts WAY too quickly and if the signal increases doesn't sound again. I have tested it the past 2 days and have gotten really good distance on KA band, but it alerts.. then no matter what the signal does (increase/decrease) it doesn't sound sometimes again. I look up and the signal is still going. Yesterday I got a couple of Bleeps then NOTHING.. I looked up about a min later and the KA Bar was FULL STRENGTH and looked in my rear view mirror (didn't see anyone in front) to find an Officer in the distance trailing. This officer was following for approx. 5 more mins and I don't remember hearing another Beep from the detector at all, just KA FULL BARS on the screen.

am I missing something...

You are not missing anything. The Max is. We have had issues with Auto-mute since the Max first arrived. Not all of us, but many have the same issue. It appears that when it mutes, it mutes so low that most others cannot hear it.

This has been addressed plenty of times to Escort, and we need to see what they will finally do. You are not the only one with this issue. If they can fix this thru a simple update we can do at home, I am sure they will.

My fix was to just turn auto-mute off. Most of us do not have the luxury of trying to read the RD screen while navigating traffic at the same time. It tends to cause accidents, another hassle no one needs. If you have more concerns about this, I would contact Escort CS.

I agree that the AutoMute goes from normal (set) volume to lower volume too quickly and it's too low once "muted".

As for full signal strength and no audio alert, are you using the Max in conjunction with Escort Live and do you have CruiseAlet on?

When using EL, CruiseAlert will be set by the current speed limit. So, if you're going 60MPH in a 65MPH zone and the Max picks up a signal, it will give you a quick double-beep and then fully mute. Once you go above the PSL showing in the Max (in this example 66MPH or higher), the alert is released from mute and you should get an alert at full volume.

This is how AutoMute functions on our detectors, it will not go back to full volume until a new signal is detected. My RedLine lowers the volume of alerts by approximately the same amount as my Passport Max does. If you do not like AutoMute then you can disable it in the detector's settings and the alert volume will not change over time.

But Like I said before it's a good feature it just needs to be made so we can set the level it mutes to as everyone likes there volume different. I suggested maybe something like make the settings to choose from from 75% 50% 25% of max Volume. We could check the one we prefer. If you can do this in an update it would be great. I don't wanna hear it going off at max volume once it alerts and would be great to set the Volume to what we want to after it alerts.

I agree. This should be an easy addition but will cause changes needed in DT and EL.

I will relay this request to product development as I do all of them. Please be aware that we also try to keep the available options to a minimum to not overwhelm people with options. You can already set the volume of the detector and you have the ability to turn off AutoMute. You can also limit alerts under set speeds with the CruiseAlert settings.

Please also keep in mind that some requested features may be patented by other manufacturers.

Agree!

Larry, I know you said your Max operates the same as your Redline. I own both as well. I don't know why, but I hear a difference. The Redline seems to provide just a tad more alert at set volume before going into mute, whereas, the Max alerts and mutes so quick you can miss it. I can hear the Redline in mute mode, but at a comparable volume level the Max seems to Mute much more than the Redline.

I don't know - maybe it's just me, but I can definitely hear a difference!

Same here, much different than the 9500ix. Easy to miss if you're distracted or have the music turned up. Even with the volume maxed.

Overall I find the sound on the MAX totally different than my 9500ix. The 9500ix seemed to have a commanding presence that is hard to ignore, when it came to audio. Not sure how else to explain it.
