Is it significantly better ? Honestly ? No. But it is better The 9500IX has a bit of tunnel vision which hampers it's off axis performance slightly. But that is what gives it the ability to false a lot less & once you experience true lock &GPS with your radar detector you won't want to go back. Ever. Being able to lock out false signals is a dream come true. I swear to you once I locked out all of the false signals on my regular route to work , 90% of the alerts I received were police running radar. The IX no slouch at picking up radar, 2 - 1/2 mile alerts on the highway are common. Thats plenty of warning for anybody to slow down. You should always use one or two rabbits out in front of you anyway.
I love my 9500IX it may not be the most sensitive detector out there ( redline is ) but it is the best all around detector there is, and there is no better feeling than driving to work with not one single false.

Quick question....Is the 9500IX significantly better than the 8500 X50? I am going to trade in my older 8500 for a newer model.

    Thanx
