Are detectors legal to operate in Romania? If not, and they use radar detector detectors, the Escort and Bel M3 detectors (RedLine, 9500ci, Bel Sti, Sti-R, and Sti-R Plus) are the only detectors which are not detectable.

Bel's STi-R and STi-R Plus both have a "Ka segmentation" and a "RDR off" reduced Ka filtering modes which will dramatically decrease radar response times depending on how many Ka frequencies that you set to monitor.

Regardless, both POP and I/O radar can only be detected when they are transmitting, which is when there is a target. You will be reliant on targets ahead of you to get advanced warning of their use with any detector.

Detectors are legal in Romania since 2007. The stealth of M3 antenna is not important here anymore. Anyway, they don't have RDD. Until 2007 a remote detector was enough.
Only K band is used here. The radars used are MPH Python II, BEE III and Traffipax Speedophot (Low power, stationary). The BEE III are the latest acquisition of the police. They just got 450 cars equiped with BEE III. Given the country size, one will encounter one of this radars every 30-40km.
The BEE III has POP capability. It uses 67ms POP in K band. Can Escort and Bel models detect this K band POP reliably? This will be a real advantage. The cops have accumulated enough frustration while using the Python II in constant on mode only. Any detector would detect it from 1-2 km.

Good Googely Moogely! No Ka Band at all? I'm wondering if turning off Ka band on the 9500ix behaves the same as on the M3 detectors?

Turning off Ka Band on the RedLine is the same as having all Ka Segments turned off on the STi-R.........which makes the detector blistering fast on K-Band quick triggers. Since it catches 10 of 10 at .130 seconds it might do pretty darn good with .067 bursts in this mode.

Maybe EscortRadar can confirm this for us?

And maybe they can confirm us if turning Ka and X off on other detectors actually makes the detector not to scan those bands or they are still scanned for filtering purposes.
Some say that turning off a band only disables the alerts.

Actually there is only one radar on Ka band, a Decatur, but it's always on a 160km highway.

I didn't forget about you cristidb. I've been doing some homework on our Euro only detectors

All of our detectors disable scanning of the bands that have been disabled in preferences. Disabling Ka will dramatically decrease K band response times, it will detect K band signals much faster. Note that this does not apply to the "AutoNoX" mode on some of our detectors, X will still be scanned in AutoNoX mode.

Our Passport X50Euro and various Beltronics detectors which are offered exclusively in Europe are designed to detect European only radar equipment. I have been told the X50 Euro in particular is by far the best detector for detecting all police radar equipment used across Europe, including the elusive Iskra pulsed K guns.

Thank you for the clarifications.
So the Autoscan and City modes are just filtering the X band alerts on the M4 platform, and disabling bands actually makes the detector not to scan the disabled band. That's good to know. Turning off Ka band or at least parts of it will have the biggest effect since it's the widest band.

In the mean time I've also found out some new information about our "wonder radars".
The police was just trying to impress with their new toys. Actually the radar POP feature has been disabled by the system integrator, TSS uk. The radar works in constant on or instant on only.

X50 Euro is a very good detector.

The initial question still remains unanswered. Can Belscort detectors detect K band POP or not? In the X50 Euro specifications is clearly stated Ka band POP, for all the rest just POP.
Iskra is a bad radar. It sends 20ms bursts, at least 3 of them. Only V1, X50 Euro and Rx65e with iskra fix can detect it. They are not used in Romania.

Yes they can detect K POP but not 100% reliably. The X50 Euro probably fares better than the US X50 due to the similar pulsed K guns, which are not POP, that the Euro version is looking for. Disabling Ka will dramatically increase K POP detection reliability.

I'm still researching our Euro products, we mainly work on the US product here at our headquarters. In the meantime, have you tried to contact our Escort Radar Romanian distributor with your questions?

As far as I know, the Bel Sti Driver can but not 100%. It scored a 3/10 shots using my Z35 16 ms POP. I don't know about the X50 euro since I have not tried it. Here's a link for some of the test done by GOL. Scroll down for the 67ms test.
