Default Very Disappointed in Escort

I purchased an X70 through Escort on 1/19/16. It turns out that the unit I got (I called this UNIT #1) was defective. Both POWER and ALERT light stays on whenever the detector is ON. Sent it back, and Escort got it on 1/22/16.

I got a replacement unit (I call this UNIT #2) on 1/28/16. It seemed like it was working, but it seemed awfully quiet on Ka. Went to a known permanently fixed Ka speed sign, and yes... X70 Unit #2 is dead silent. It was made in 47th week of 2015? (4715) So Unit#2 is also defective.

I am disappointed in Escort. I was very loyal and I liked my old X50, but it seems like Escort is having quality control issues....

I want my money back. Tired of driving to the UPS store every time.

Is there anything unique/special about your car's windshield?

What happens if you place the detector in another vehicle and drive the same route?

BTW, I don't think that any speed signs use Ka. They typically use K band or they have sensor pads in the road.

Hi thanks for the reply!

It alerts nicely to K band. Ka band is dead silent. Both police K band and supermarket K band is alive and well and alerts. This speed sign has the white circular dot on the face of the display.

My old 8500 X50 alerted to K and Ka band nicely in this vehicle. The old X50 alerted nicely to Ka at this sign.

Here is a video of it being oblivious to Ka band even after restoring factory settings.

Could it be that the speed sign has drifted out of calibration?

Here is a video of it being still oblivious after a factory reset.

Worst comes to worst brother, ESCORT policy is they will fix or replace any product for between $50-$75 no matter what the condition. Send it off and make them send a brand new one! If that one is bad, make them send you a return ship box for that one and have them send another... etc... They usually pretty good on customer service on the actual products. As far as software updates on red light cameras and as far as the quality of the mounts for the units ESCORT ranks a ZERO out of 10! But as far as keeping you from getting tickets... they rate an 11 out of 10 !!!

cheers,
disco

Typically with our detectors if it doesn't alert properly on Ka band then it will not on K either but this is not a rule. The speed sign could be transmitting outside of Ka band or it may be using a modulated signal which our newer detectors filter out. If you would like for us to check your Passport X70 then contact our service department at the number in my signature below.

What are you talking about? We do not charge for repairing a product that is covered under warranty or replacing one that was purchased from us and is within its return period. Although never mentioned here, we update our camera database weekly with the latest camera location information and our newest StickyCup mount is rated very highly.

Thanks for the reply Escort. Here is an update.

I tried the same thing with your competitor, Valentine One, with latest firmware.

V1 also did not alert to it. So I am guessing it is modulating the signal or the radar is out of tune. So probably means that my old X50 I returned was out of tune?

I'm just doing an evaluation with X70 and (Borrowed) V1, but so far, X70 only alerted to strong door signals or legitimate police radar, while V1 alerted to extra false signals, including couple of false lasers from front LED light tubes in newer vehicle.

So you have gone from "very disappointed" to, "oh the V1 didn't alert to it either". And now you claim the V1 is a chatter box and your Passport is doing a wonderful job of filtering false alerts. I think you need to give it 25 days er so and then decide if you want to keep it or return it. Sounds like it's working fine from the details you have posted.

Posts like this tend to delegitimize other posts on this forum that concern actual problems. Before you post a thread that assumes Escort is at fault it's best to troubleshoot and see if others can help with the problem, especially when just starting out.
