I watched two or three people blow by me to what I was sure was a waiting Idaho State Trouper. I was ready to see this line of cars pulled over but no just an orange trailer with a ka band gun hanging off the bottom warning me of the road ahead, which was dry.
This was on 93 south between Twin Falls ID and Jackpot NV. Here 93 is winding and undulating, deep troughs. There are 50ft buttes (for lack of a better term) and hills all over. The weather was clear I imagine the humidity was low and it was cold! like 20F. I don't know why the Ka gun was on, the sign was not showing speed.

But 7 Miles?! Am I impressed or is there something about that Ka gun on the trailer?

REDLINE saved me 3-4 times this trip (SF->Portland(via I-5)->Missoula Montana(via 84,395&90)->SF(via90,15,30,93&80))
Cool range, and yes, this counts. We're not necessarily looking for a save, just real-world range.

Twin Falls ID to Jackpot NV... been there, done that.

I got a 2 mile Ka hit last week on Redwood Road in West Jordan UT. Two W. Jordan LEOs were running C/O speed trap just south of City Hall at 8000 South Redwood. My Redline started chirping when I went through the Shields Lane light at 9800 South. There are approx 8 blocks per mile here so that's 17-18 blocks, perhaps just over 2 miles. Traffic was light, but I had ample warning, way before I could physically see them. I'm very impressed so far with the Redline.

Sunday I am going to Long Beach, CA and will report back.

AHA!!

We can't let OpenRoad sit on top by himself forever.

You now have the longest "In Town" detection on record at 2 miles!

Holy crap Batman! I had no idea this would be an in-town record. My Redline is set to Highway, X-band off, Pop off, expert meter, announcing multiple signals so I knew there was more than one LEO.

Redwood Road is a 6 lane major surface street in the SLC area, straight as a ruler and no real hills on that stretch. That, along with light traffic was a contributing factor to the exceptional detection range.

So I have a double post today.

I was driving HWY 395 south of Reno yesterday on the way to Carson City, when my Redline alerted to a distant Ka signal. I reset the odometer, and after awhile, the Redline at full tilt alert, I passed up a NHP car driving opposite direction who was the source. Doubling my odometer came out to 5 miles. Not a save as I was driving PSL. So the reason for the distant alert was because he was coming down a small mountain\hill, and so his radar was a beacon across the valley floor. I only wished I had been another mile farther back when he came down, might have been a 7 miler. Oh well....

I posted this one also on RD.NET - but is notable here. I was later driving in the late evening eastbound I-80 between Winnemucca and Battle Mountain. Long story short, I got a 4 mile detect from a NHP car sitting BEHIND an overpass. What was impressive to me was that the closest car visually to me was a tiny red dot on the horizon, 2 1/2 - 3 miles away. The Redline alerted to the LEO using I/O, but not on the car in front of me, but another 5 cars AHEAD of him. I'm guessing the cars were spaced about 1/5 - 1/4 mile apart based on the time interval of the I/O shots. Of course I'm guestimating the distance, but probably not far from accurate. After the LEO encounter, I eventually passed up the rabbit, and I could see the other vehicles, spaced evenly between 1/8 and 1/4 miles.

A good night for fun with the Redline.

Kf7yn - great detect. This will just get better over time.

btw - I have an 'in towner' that I neglected to post here 2.6 miles.... but you can read here:

OK.........Waterdonkey knocks you off the hill with longest "Openroad" (Pun intended ) detection, and you knock off Kf7yn with longest in town detection. And I can't even get into the game because I drive in a Labyrinth here in New York.

I might try putting a 20' periscope on the car with the RedLine mounted on top! Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Yeah, but what I want to see here on this thread are individual long ranges....not 'longest'. But I guess that excludes the easterners who are happy with 1/4 mile over-the-hill detects. I'm racking up huge miles in the desert, so I'm logging a bunch. I drive once again this Friday from SLC to Reno and back. Then 4 days later, SLC back to SF Bay Area and back to SLC again. In the next 12 days, I'll log 2,500 miles.

I'd love to hear some more "wow" stories. Last night on my Nevada encounter, I literally laughed out loud and said "wow, this is unbelievable". I only wish I could get some of these on video. A new camera is on my short list.

ya im lucky to get much more than a mile with hills and curves all over the place. I do have to say the alerts i get are much more impressive than 2mi + alerts.
KA encounters where you cant see the LEO for 1/2mi with curves and hills are pretty impressive.

Got another one today at Bonneville Salt Flats, this time 3.9 miles. Perhaps I should post a table that can have users+distance+posting date.
