Yeah,it should "see" enough signal to get a lock.Give it a try to see what happens when mounted there.

I have doubts that you'd get a good GPS connection, since the visor would be over the top of the 9500ix, and this RD needs to have a clear view of the sky.
Furthermore, when the visor is flipped up all the way to the roof, the RD would be positioned under the roof of the car. I'll suggest that you take RedRocket's suggestion and just hold the RD below the visor and power it on. If it acquires the GPS signal, the a visor clip should work.

Visor mounting the 9500ix does not work too well. We tried it in the past and remember you are not only covering the gps antenna with the visor but also with the vehicles metal roof. Your gps signal will not be solid and you will get many interruptions. You are better off mounting it high using the windshield mounting bracket.

LEOs aim low (typically at the headlights and license plate) on the front of the car, or at the license plate and tail-lights at the rear. There are documented cases were a LEO has taken aim of a driver using LIDAR after the car had passed by. Positioning the detector on the visor will almost certainly render detection of LIDAR "blind". But then again, even it an optimal position on the windshield, your RD will only serve to let you know that you're about get a ticket, unless you have some other LIDAR defense system in place, like Escorts ZR4 shifters, or LI. I wouldn't recommend using a visor clip at all, and most especially for the 9500ix.

There was a time I used a GX65 on a visor clip for a while until I mounted it better. About 5% of the time it would lose the satellite signal (or not find it on start up). Most of the time it did, but he voice on the GX would announce the moments it lost and reacquired the signal.
It didn't kill the radar detection ability, just lost some key components of filtering making for more alerts that would have normally been locked out.....and the red light/speed cameras wouldn't get announced while the GPS is no-op. And it occurred at random times....so no teal choice on when it would go down. For a temporary mount....it works....mostly...but it'll be happier mounted where it can see the satellites. |
