You should see the lobby now, it's nearly done! It is functional, just installing monitors, etc. I'll post pictures to the forum once it is completed.
Copy that in the Map version 1.2. It's what I have.

Appreciate it!

Question What version is the new map download?

I ordered my PIQ a couple of weeks before Christmasm 2012. Was wondering if someone could let me know what version of maps is currently available for download so I can check my unit to see if the lastest version was downloaded before it was shipped. Also, if it is not the latest version, is there a "grace period" of downloads based on when the unit was purchased that will avoid the $29.95 download?

Go into Settings/About. The Map Data version should be 1.2.

You cannot download map updates. They come on a micro-SD card that you use to install them into the Passport iQ.

I just as of 01/22/13 got my Passport IQ any advise about useing the IQ would be appriciated. Also amy thing that is not in the operation manual the you have learned about the IQ, Please pass that along.

I was reading the user responces on Amazon.com, and I feel that most of the problems were user induced and not following the proper proceedures.

I got mine out of the box and the first thing to do is to charge the battery, which I have done. I have called 1-800-543-1608 and talk with a rep and he said it's ready to go in the car. I'll go for aa test drive.

If you have used our detectors before then you may want to set the alert tones to "classic". Other than that I can't think of anything.

After about 3 passes by radar false alerts then it will store them and not alert to them any longer making for a quiet drive, that is until there is a threat nearby. After they are stored you will see these false alert signals being detected by a grey signal strength bar, instead of red, but they will not audibly alert.

Enjoy!

Ok...got that. Is there any regularity to how often map updates become available on the SD card? Monthly, yearly, etc.

Also, I assume then that firmware updates are downloadable? What is the current firmware version? I also assume that you check the same way as the map data version?

Sorry for the "simple" questions. While I've used other GPS systems and your scanners separately, I am new to this intergrated unit. Leaving on a 500 mile trip tomorrow. I'm sure I will get used to it real soon! Thanks for your help.

Thumbs up

During my test drive today to familiarize myself with My new IQ, I went aboard a Military Base. In the time it took to drive to the gas station and back off base, My IQ picked up 16 radar alerts in 15-20 minutes I was on Base. I porposely drove a street that I knew had a red light camera. The IQ warned me 2 blocks before I got there, that intersection has a Red Light Camera. As far as I can tell my IQ is working normally.

Map updates have occured once a year. The maps and speed limits are updated.

The Defender database of camera locations is updated weekly and is updatable through Detector Tools.

The iQ's firmware is also updatable through Detector Tools. Here is the announcement for the release of the current firmware version.

One thing to note about using the iQ's routes is that they will update, or recalculate, on the fly if you stray off of them. Say that you need to take an exit off the given route to eat, etc. The iQ will recalculate the route given your current location as you drive.

Also not that you can edit route avoidances by pressing Routes, then Manage Routes buttons. You may need to have a route entered to see the Manage Routes button.

Have a safe trip. It's good to hear that you will be Driving Smarter

Thanks for the information, I am sure it will come in useful. One more quick question, is there a charge to download from Detector tools? (red light cameras, firmware, etc.). Can you provide me a link to detector tools to get things started?

Thanks again for the help! I'll try to report back in after my return from the trip.

You will need to register your Passport iQ first to be able to download Detector Tools. Here is the webpage, fill out the left hand side. If you ever need to download it again then simply enter your email address in the right hand side.

Once you register your iQ then you get 90 days of free Defender database updates. Firmware updates are free, no subscription required.

You can purchase Defender subscriptions on our Detector Accessory/ Software & Subscriptions webpage here
