Nine, thank you so much for this honest, unbiased and unaffiliated review! I appreciate the work you do and the time you put in. I trust what you say about RDs over a lot of other sites/peeps.

I still haven't bought one yet. I'm still debating. The only drawbacks I see currently for me are it the Escort Max is not stealth and as nine put it "latch times are way too long", "it does not have the Range of the Redline" (which I currently own), it is not as well behaved as the Redline". I was expecting the Max to be smarter (better behaved against falsing then the Redline) and have better range then it due to this DSR/military technology Escort is touting. From what I read from your review Nine, this is not the case. This is a big deal to me as I live in the city (need less falsing) but drive a few hours to the coast (range) with nothing around except the highway.

Nine, any chance you can give us some of your amazing graphs showing the differences between the RDs (much like you did when the Redline finally got band segmentation)? Escort Max vs. Redline, vs. V1? They really helped me see the differences and weigh the pros and cons.

Thanks again for your review!

Thanks Happya$$!

This is the beginning of a new era with Escort with both technology and an upfront honest approach with the enthusiast community. It took b@lls to put this into our rough hands early and roll with the results.....no restrictions whatsoever on what I could say.

That means alot for us and them in this developing relation.

Now I can't wait to see your review with a production model in hand. Your writing style really adds color and texture and will be a masterpiece I'm sure.
Nice job as always Nine!! Now you need to change your sig

This is so wonderful to hear...and again, I really do credit you in being such a positive ambassador for the online community I know how consistently positive yet persistent. It often takes a long time to change the "culture" of any group, and I am heartened to see this is happening.

Props to Larry too (and those that enabled his online contributions). He's clearly been an extremely valuable asset in this regard as well!

Yet again, job well done Nine! I really love your honest, no-holds-barred analyses of the radar detectors that you get to road-test. Your review of the Max didn't disappoint.

Thanks!

Speed Measurement Laboratories Inc.
"In 30 years of impartial testing, we haven't seen the astoundingly accurate reporting range or the immediacy of alert by any other radar detector."

Radar Roy
"I feel this is the best radar detector ever made..."

Speedzones.com
"Wow - insatiable range and immediate alerts."

Mike C, aka Nine_c1 on forums
"This thing is SMOKING HOT on response times! So far the digital here has really impressed me with around the bend, over the hill, forward facing and detections from behind. It looks like it's got it all together picking up the weak signals out of the weeds."
I couldn't care less what the others have said and never will. If Nine says it then you can bet your money that its true and he proved it. Thank you Nine,I've been waiting, ants in pants, all day to see your review and you came through as a true professional.

The Passport Max only has 1 horn, so arrows won't be possible.

It's new.....and not just another re-badged detector. I mean REALLY new from a hardware and firmware standpoint. It just birthed out of the lab and made it's first few runs out in the real world, so if it didn't break all records we should understand.....but it IS a runner and will develop into the best.

As ER stated, it's magic is in the firmware and that will continue to get refined until perfection is achieved.

Meanwhile the RedLine has been in the trenches learning it's trade and it's at it's peak and fully evolved. I'm proud that it didn't get knocked off so easily having spent several years working towards that Expert Firmware. But the writing is on the wall and the digital will ultimately prevail.......just not as of yesterday.

If you have a RedLine with BS/RDR and love it's performance then KEEP IT! Never let a great detector go. But if you are looking to buy new then you have to consider not only where this detector is at today, but where it will be tomorrow.

As for the actual test course numbers......I felt it inappropriate to post them being that Escort is tweaking that firmware now and my unit is officially pre-production. All I can say is that my on road videos are genuine and representative of how this pre-production model performed. When I get a production model in hand and tested, then all the numbers go up.

In no way am I trying to one-up Nine, but I would like to address the substance of your post, if I may be permitted to. Nine could only accumulate so many experiences in a mere three week period so that judgement may be a bit premature here.

If the Max lives up to its billing, as I suspect it will, over time, there are are going to be nuanced encounters that really show the Max excel (over all others). The problem with this is that these encounters are likely going to be specialized and relatively infrequent...and most importantly require someone capable of really ascertaining the complex dynamics of the encounters.

You know those holy cow moments that you have experienced with any given detector where you marveled its alacrity. Give it time. As Nine alluded to, the platform is going to continue to be refined (just think where we are with the Redline now).

I have said before, there is only so much one can do in a lab. And that goes for any advanced design. Its over time and in the real-world where greatness (or shortcomings) can ultimately manifest themselves. The Max should be no different in that regard.

And so, even though I didn't have the privilege of seeing an early release, I did post an article yesterday elaborating on the promise of the Max's potential.

I have been anxiously awaiting Nine's take on it now that he has emerged from hiding.

Mind you, I didn't have access to one nor was I privy to any inside information. I merely observed the evolution of radar detection technology (the good, the bad, and the ugly so to speak) and also pondered cases where the Max could completely redefine what we believe is possible (again) in a radar detector.

That's front horn. Even the Redline has 2 horns, but they're both upfront. Again, the only reason for the rear horn is to make the arrows work (and yes, maybe give you a bit more range from the rear).

Arrows won't be happening on this piece of hardware. No firmware update can change that.
