Default Is Escort going to fix this known problem???

I bought my detector 6 months ago and I live in Houston. All day long I pass by a location that I have manually stored and within a week it's forgot that location again. So frustrated. If I wanted a detector that went off all the time I'd just buy an 80 dollar cobra and save the 480 for something else. So I did an experiment. I got my old trusty 9500ix that's been sitting in storage for 6 months and used it for a week. It never went off one time for false alarms. It works better than my brand new IX. ESCORT can I return this detector and get a full refund. I will just use my old 9500 it works better anyways. ?????

We are aware of this and working on a solution through a firmware update. In the meantime there is a solution. If you clear the detector's lockouts then it should store this false like it is supposed to. This will clear all of your lockouts. You can do this through the detector's preferences menu which is detailed in the quick reference guide under the Clear Locations section.

I have a Max 360 exhibiting this same issue. I'm curious, how does clearing all stored lockouts potentially solve the problem with the handful of lockouts that won't cooperate?

escort - how do you plan to notify customers when a solution is provided?

In all the years of having escorts I've never cleared marked locations before. After doing this on my ix it alerts on first psss and then as driving away it's saying stored ? Is this normal behavior? I assumed I would have the pas them 3 times before storing them??

I don't have an answer for you mrmaui, but passing along my experiences may help explain EscortRadars suggestion.

What I am going to post here is speculation and conjecture. And then I'm going down to watch Trump address Congress.

A software bug (if that's what this problem is) is often triggered by a certain set of conditions that don't always occur during normal operation. If a software bug was triggered only by a "handfull of lockouts", all of us would have noticed problems pretty quickly. But that didn't happen. So the trigger that set off the bug involved some unique set of operating conditions that occurred within the detector while a "handfull of lockouts" were in place.

I had an iX but the autolearn is similar to what's used in the Max series detectors. The "handfull of lockouts" I eventually had trouble with started off acting normally. One day, these lockouts, in addition to some other condition that occurred, caused things to misbehave. But until that point, the handful of lockouts were fine. I am currently running a MAX II. It has the same set of lockouts my iX had. My iX exhibited the problem. My MAX II has not. Best guess I can make is that the MAX II has not encountered that additional condition in it's software that causes the bug to manifest.

So there is one or more additional conditions that must be satisfied before those handful of lockouts become problematic.

To get to your question - by clearing the lockouts and letting them reform, it may be quite likely that the additional condition that tripped the handful of lockouts into the problems we see won't occur again. Escort investigated this issue with some detectors users returned for examination. And so Escort understands what gets the software in a mode where it has problems with these lockouts.

By suggesting we clear our lockouts, Escort may realize that the conditions which started problems with the handful of lockouts occurs very rarely. It must be very rare or more would be complaining about this issue.

Not everyone (as a matter of fact, very few) have seen this problem. Probably because their detectors didn't encounter that additional condition (which I mentioned above) which tripped the bug to show itself.

I don't know if this is the best explanation but Escort knows what the problem is and has stated a firmware fix will be coming sooner.

Hope this helps.

Dan

P.S. I do not speak for Escort or EscortRadar. The conjecture and speculations I have posted come from insight I have into embedded systems, which I have worked with and written firmware for during most of my working career.

Onto Trump addressing Congress, along with one or two stiff drinks.

Thumbs up

Very good info. I was driving in this morning and thinking about what you wrote and I'm also have a guess. When you do the clear option I notice the escort says formatting drive. I'm wondering if possibly some early escorts hasd some coruptuon on the drive that stores the lockouts or the drives were not formatted? and by clearing them it formats the drive and able to store more info? Just a guess I will keep everyone posted how this week goes as I drive for a living and will be logging a ton of miles in Texas this week.

Yes, this is the normal behavior. Although you cleared the marked locations, there is still a profile in the detector that "knows" that there has been a signal previously reported at this GPS location, so your detector is now "marking" the location.

Hey Turbo, did the clear marked locations correct the issue? I have the problem but hate to loose the marked locations that work if it doesn't help.
