Sure hope the International firmware gets this same update shortly thereafter...

Even though I know it will never happen, I'd love for there to be an update to finally make the laser detection work as it was advertised to. I have a neighbor who is a cop, and he was kind enough to help me with a test...he pointed his laser gun directly at my Max several times, and the thing didn't ring once.

I've never owned a better radar detector. I can't imaging owning a better radar detector. But, to even claim this has laser detection is an insulting joke. Please release an update to improve (or I guess add) laser detection. Thanks.

There's nothing that can be fixed, Bret. It's about how Laser guns work vs Radar.

See this sticky post. It explains things.

Secondly, even if your detector is lucky enough to pick up a threat, the LEO has your speed. Sometimes a driver might get some scatter from vehicles ahead of you, but those are rare. Most drivers won't be aware that they are being targeted with Laser until you see the flashing red lights in your rear-view mirror.

You can research this on this forum and others. The truth is consistent.

The only defense against Laser threats are shifters/jammers.

I am unable to spin straw into gold, due to a variety of physical limitations. But, you don't see me advertising my services to spin straw into gold, do you?

There are no spin-straws in my comments, nor in the sticky post, Bret.

My comments and guidance are consistent with posts on this forum, as well as on other forums, as well.

The facts ARE the facts.

"he pointed his laser gun directly at my Max several times, and the thing didn't ring once."

Wow, as useless as laser detection is - that shows your Max has a dud laser sensor surely?

My Max has alerted to direct lidar contact previously.

What laser speed gun was he using? Older Max's don't detect new models like the Dragon Eye. The same applies with older detector designs by other manufacturers. The DE was specifically designed to defeat radar detectors.

Is the update going to include a Visibility mod? The one that makes the readout visible in daylight?

This isn't a firmware issue. It's a limitation of OLED displays, regardless of the manufacturer. Please see my reply in your other post.

If you were that close you could see him and know he was pointing a laser gun right at you that's why. At say 300 feet the laser beam might only be 8-10 inches in diameter. If he aims at one of your headlights and your detector is up high by the mirror the laser beam is outside the detectors field of view. It works this way for all brands of detectors. This is why a detector alone is no defense against laser, you need shifters.
