Laser detector firing all the time

I had in my various cars this problem once in while.
When I was driving my Saab Viggen, the Laser detector used to fire upon , honking or when squirting water in the windshield. I thought the problem was only of position or whatever.
I used it on a trip with my Lexus SUV and started firing out of nowhere.
Now I put it back in my new car another Saab , and is firing all the time. Usually it does it when I take the same turns on the same spots everyday where I know positively there is nobody with a laser gun. It is doing more and more often without reason.
So I'm talking of three different cars and the Laser detector giving false positives.
I must say however that it saved me numerous times.

So far I have not received any false laser alarm in my 8500, I have received about half a dozen warnings, but all were real laser warnings.

Most of my warning were direct hits as there were no other cars ahead of me. But I did receive a scatter laser warning while driving behind two semi.

As laser become more prevalent on the highway and in the city, I would be interested in seeing how effective it is in picking up scattered laser.

In any event, I will never use it for protection against laser, especially at night. If you don't pay attention to look for the cop, 90% of the time it is too late.

If mine is giving me constant false warnings, I would rather turn off the laser detection and get a Blinder.

I have had my 8500 since about 2004 with no issues in one car. In 2008 I got a second car and started swapping the detector back and forth, I came across this same issue of the laser warning going off every time my supercharger whine got too loud (or something else related to hard acceleration).

I contacted Escort and they had me send it in...I forget how much it cost, but it wasn't very expensive (maybe $80-100?) but they had to "recalibrate" the laser detector...unless you hold it flat at all times, which is hard when swapping in and out of different cars, I believe the laser sensor gets out of whack and give false positives.

Since I had the unit recalibrated by escort I've had no issues...however, I've gone out of my way to keep it level and flat as much as possible.

My 8500 purchased in early 2003 registered LASER whenever honking the horn. I tried it in another car and then it would register a laser hit every time I would punch the gas

Horn I get...gas pedal...that one throws me a bit

Caused by the ignition or the electromagnetic clutch on a variable valve timing engine. This can be corrected.

LCD screens in cellphones or GPS nav devices located near the detector will also cause laser falsing.

Technology like fire can be good or bad.

It may just be a matter of time before license plates or license tags will contain RF chips in them.

Possibly using the entire license plate as an antenna.
