This has nothing to do with my personal RedLine experience........but this post is a stand out.......particularly since this individual was very skeptical of the RedLine in the early going.

I'm glad he decided to give it a shot.......and now he knows what some of us have known......this detector is not all Hype!

It's a good post, until Stealth Stalker jumps in zombie-style. As usual.

Actually it was DJ's misinterpretation and drive to one answer that caused the issues near the last few pages with me. SS actually got it back on track for me so people could see the big picture and where i was coming from.

It's been a while since I posted in this thread as most of my contacts have been around town or between home and work. While the RedLine continues to impress, I have not been able to really stretch it's legs until today.

I made a round trip to Albany on the NYS Thruway logging 110 miles and (4) 34.7 Ka encounters.

Two were moving Constant On with an around the curve detection of .4 miles and another of .8 miles. These were easy pickups and no real threat as the median was broad with no u-turns in sight.........ie. I doubt the troopers were even able to get a reading on me.

The other two were magnificant detections of IO with the troopers parked in the median targeting my side. The first one was straight over the hill and the RedLine picked up the 1st shot about .2 miles before cresting the hill..........the LEO was another .7 miles down the other side tucked between a break in the guardrails. That was fantastic! The last one, on the way back South, was phenomenal. Another over the hill encounter but with a 30 degree bend at the top of the hill. On this one, I picked up the 1st shot .5 miles before cresting the hill and proceeded through the bend then found the LEO sitting a mile down the road! This is another example of how useful metal guardrails can be. The radar signal reflected right around the turn off the center rail and the RedLine picked it up from .5 miles down the other side.

I did notice the ramp up was very nice on the two stationary encounters.......starting out very slow and then going full alert when cresting the hill on both encounters. So, if your RedLine gives a weak Ka alert; the LEO is either on the other side of a hill, around a long sweeping bend or a long ways off.........or all three.

Powered it up and checked out the audio and control functions. Very pleased with the audio quality and volume on this unit! Voice alerts are very nice but I switch them off when it's time for duty. Also found that the auto dimm actually works on this unit.......the last two 9500s I had were not so great. The unit has a fairly slow start up even with the quick start factory setting but not really an issue. Stepping through the menu and changing settings is very similar to any other Escort/Bel unit.

Turned off; auto-mute, Voice announcements and X-Band. Set Display to Expert and Start Up to the Long Routine, Highway mode with scanning dot.......and hit the road!

I immediately noticed that this Detector beats the V1 or any other detector I've ever owned at finding K-Band door sensors! This lays to rest the fact that you cannot have bleeding edge sensitivity on K-Band AND ignore these sensors at the same time........unless you add GPS of course. However, I did not find the RedLine to be quite as annoying in town as the V1.......reason being.......the Dee Dee Doo, Dee Dee Doo, Dee Dee Doo of the V1 are blissfully absent from the RedLine! Further testing showed that switching from Highway to Auto mode cut down the number and length of these K-Band sensor alerts by about 60%

So how did it fair against the real deal? Well, first let me say that it was a miserable night for Radar. It's raining and damp. Moisture absorbs microwave energy........in particularly in the higher frequencies occupied by K and Ka Radar. X-Band is a much better foul weather radar. None the less.........the RedLine blew my doors off!!!! I had a total of (5) Ka Band encounters and I was absolutely amazed at the RedLine's performance on each encounter!

Even though I ran in Expert mode for most of the night I'm sure they were all 34.7 since that is the only Ka Band run by the Locals, Sheriff and State in my area. On (3) encounters I got visual on the source and on the other (2) I never found the LEO. All encounters were CO.

1st encounter: Ka alert started out slow with gradual ramp up. I was traveling on a straight stretch through town with a gradual curve about 1/4 mile ahead with an intersection right before the curve. I figured the LEO was coming at me from around that bend........but not so! When I got to the intersection he was sitting at the light at about a 120 degree angle to my line of travel (pointing slightly towards me). Thats amazing off axis but I was probably more likely getting some good bounces! Their antenna is mounted to the dash so there is no way he was pointing it out the window.

2nd encounter: Exited off ramp and received Ka alert before merging onto main drag in town. The alert started slow as I was rounding the off ramp then jumped to almost full alert as I completed the bend. I figured the Leo was in oncoming traffic directly ahead......but no....none of the cars I passed were him. The alert continued for 1/4 mile before going to full alert on Ka. Now I'm sure the LEO is the car coming up behind me. Stop at a red light about 1/2 mile from the exit ramp......nope, the car behind me is not a LEO! Round a slight bend (20 degree) and go another mile still at full Ka alert and there he is! Sitting in a parking lot with his dome light on doing paperwork......the cruiser wasn't even lined up on me! I figure this is ridiculously good range, so I pull a u-turn to go back and do another run figuring who knows what I'd have gotten had I not just entered this road 1.5 miles back. Sure enough, I hold the alert until I round that 20 degree bend 1 mile down the road (not bad at all for rear detection eh?) Well I went 1/2 past the exit ramp and pulled another u-turn. No alert on the 2nd pass.....the LEO was gone.

3rd encounter: Make a left hand turn at a four way intersection and go immediately to full alert. Straight stretch of road ahead with a 30 degree bend to the right about 1/2 mile ahead. Pass three cars coming from the opposite direction......no LEO....and half way to the bend another car rounds the turn.....it's him. I can only figure I was getting some good bounces from the roadside buildings!

Encounter 4 & 5: Both Ka alerts lasted for about half a minute......never did spot the LEO which is STILL impressive as they must have been on an adjacent road or turned off before I reached them. Just the length of the alerts suggested I had them at a good distance.

Sorry for the long post! But as you can tell I am very pleasantly surprised at the detection range of this RedLine. I'm a sensitivity junkie and this new RedLine is one Heck of a fix! I've driven with V1's on the windshield for many years but never had detections this good. One night is not enough to make any final conclusions and I have yet to go up against an IO shot........but it's off to a great start! I am already convinced of one thing though......any issues their may be with early factory ships or IO reaction times not withstanding......Escort is really onto something with this M3 Platform! It's a bloodhound!

More to come..........

I was running with my Redline last night on I-15 North of Las Vegas. A LEO who was parked WAY out in the desert (quite unusual for NHP) was using Ka I/O. Lucky for me some guy in an F-250 Ford was pushing it ahead of me about 3/4 of a mile, probably going 85. I was closing distance on him at 90 when the Redline alerted to a pretty strong Ka signal, then off. After a gasp and pause, I figured he'd just tagged my temporary rabbit, so I dropped to 80, then perhaps 15 seconds later, got a max alert from a darkened LEO who was parked in the center median, facing traffic. Chalk one more to the Redline. (PSL in Nevada desert is pretty standard at 75 MPH)

Since the LEO was facing traffic, the first alert was abrupt and for a second I thought I was smoked. (Something to get used to with Redline on close encounters of the "less than a mile" kind.)

I get maybe one or two a week at 33.6. It's always a strong alert that lasts only a few seconds, so I suspect it's a leaky cobra thats very close and exceeds the signal strength threshold meant to screen these out.

I've heard that some satellite dishes set the M3 off on this same frequency, but the falses I've had seem to occur at different spots ruling out a dish. The one good thing is, in spec mode, you know this is a false alert.
