Default Do you guys take your RD in?

With temps in the teens...even inside the garage, is it advisable to take down the RD and bring it inside the house?

I know there's talk about extreme heat being bad for the RD. Is it the same way for cold temps?

Thanks!

Either extreme can be bad. I pretty much put the reasons for my opinion in this post.

The only thing I would add is that bringing an RD in from the extreme cold
can cause condensation (moisture) to collect inside the detector.......another no-no!

I got in the habit of bringin em in everytime a long time ago. They are sensitive electronic devices and should be treated as such. IMHO Also keeps the scum sucking freeloaders from trashin and takin your stuff.

I don't bring mine in but if I'm parked outside or if it is cold outside I'll take it down and but it in the glove box.

Is this a problem with built in RDs such as the 9500ci? Because you can't just take those into the house.

No. The 9500ci was designed to be left outside and is durable.

Well I can, but the wife gets upset when I park in the kitchen.

Actually, the electronics of the ci are not exposed on the dash like most detectors so you'd look at it similar to the stereo or even the engine cpu in the car. There's a point where even those items could suffer from heat or cold but it's an extreme you're not likely to experience.

I recommend not leaving it in extreme temperatures. These are precision instruments and the temperature changes could effect them. I have to say though that I have a early 9500i (now ix) that has been in my car for several Ohio years and has not needed any servicing. I also have a Bel STi-R (uses the same antenna as a 9500ci) and it has also never needed servicing.

I test our products which is why I don't practice what I preach
