so your saying because the CI is more sensitive to X band its able to filter cobras KA falses better?

All Belscort detectors oversweep both the X-Band (10.525) and K-Band (24.150) to pickup up the 1st or 2nd harmonic of the leaking LO emission from the Cobra, and if found, block out the 3rd harmonic which shows up in the Ka Band. Picking up the 1st harmonic is the easiest since it's the fundamental frequency. Thats why I believe Belscorts do so much better than the Valentine at screening out Cobra's. Escort patented the X-Band oversweep which force's Valentine to continue using K-Band oversweeps alone to find the 2nd harmonic of the leaky LO. Using K-Band oversweeps is not optimal for LO detection as some Radar Detectors use K-Band image filters to suppress leakage of the 2nd LO harmonic..........ie. COBRA! Screening out Cobra falses should be an easy thing provided the X and Ka band sensitivity of the detector are approximate. The fundamental, or 1st multiple of the leaky LO, will always be the easiest to detect. However, the M4 platform in the 9500ix is not particulary strong on X-Band, having the single horn and primary mixer tuned more for Ka/K sensitivity. The 9500ci dedicates a seperate LNA/Horn/LO/Mixer soley to X-Band reception and so has better balance and the sensitivity on X-Band is more proportional to Ka and K.

The Guardian Alert operates within X band but is modulated, our detectors will see the signal but should not alert to it. |

Also, most of us have X-Band turned off and we are still realizing fantastic Ka false suppression to the Cobras. ![]() Since the bandwidth on X-Band is only 100MHZ and K-Band is a single 200MHZ channel, there is not alot of time to be saved by eliminating the actual sweep on these two frequencies anyway. Therefore, I believe the detector just does not report any signals detected in these bands when they are turned off. Turning off Ka band certainly does eliminate the actual sweep time required to scan the 2.6 GHZ channel. If you turn Ka band off (at least on the M3) you have yourself a lighting quick detector for X and K Band. I was able to consistently pick up .13 second K-Band bursts with the RedLine when I had Ka Band turned off.

Except not everyone has a Guardian yet.........but the morons in that parking lot sure do need one.![]() Modulated X-Band.........my worries are laid to rest! Thanks ER for the reply!

I found out it is technically called swept X band, not modulated. Our M3s do not see it so no worries.
