Default Did I buy a new max II platinum?

Finally broke down and bought or so I thought I bought a new detector. Called and ordered direct from escort. Got it fast, called monday, fedex guy dropped it off tonight. Haven't even got it in the car yet, just was unboxing everything and reading everything. Then I pulled the film off the front cover of the detector over the horn and what not. It has 2 scratches on it, one just over a centimeter and the other just under. My question is, is this new? I've never seen anything like this before, was super pumped when the fedex guy got here, now a little irritated. Also, stuck the warranty sticker on it as it said to do. On the bottom, or anywhere else on the detector, there is no serial number or anything. My computer has a sticker with a bunch of numbers and everything. My old detector said "made in canada, serial number, bunch of other numbers, FCC stuff". This has nothing. No fcc sticker, serial number, or where it was made. Found that odd, never seen that on any other thing I purchased ever. I take care of my stuff, my how many year old x70 doesn't have a scratch on it. Sucks to spend hundreds of dollars on something that is supposed to be new and get it and its scratched.

So question, do the scratches affect performance? I thought I've seen they don't somewhere, but can't imagine that's good for it's performance. Either way ****es me off when my new device is scratched.

What is up with the lack of serial number, where it's made, fcc stuff etc...

What do they do when someone returns something they wanted to "try" in the 30 day return window. Does that get repackaged and sold to someone as "new" even though it's used. Or say someone returns it do to mechanical problems. Are they repaired and then sold as new? And then if that is the case, so whatever the problem was was repaired. So the parts that weren't replaced all have run time and I bought a used repaired device sold to me as new.

Is this actually new and the people in the phillipenes are just careless, dropped it or something and just packaged it up like nothing happened?

So, I'd rather not have to deal with sending it back if it's actually new. If the scratches won't affect performance, I could try to forget that they're there since I won't see them when on the windshield. Just would really like to know if I got sold a used unit as new

Thanks, Eric

I will say though, the thing is a sweet looking unit. Thought it was black and white and turns out it's a light silver, goona look sweet in the car.

That magnet mount seems pretty decent too. We'll see how it holds when I can get out there on the roads. Have to go drive on the worst road I can recall driving on tomorrow. Stevens st in rhinelander wi if there's any people from wi around here. You all should cruise up and check it out, it's something to see. And it's a main drag road in that town too

Sounds kinda strange, I'd get a hold of Escort Radar (Larry) Admin on here and let him know - see what he thinks about that.

It should not be scratched. If you purchased it directly from us then contact our service department at the number below and we will replace it.

If you purchased it elsewhere then contact the seller to have it replaced. If they will not replace it, you can contact us to have it serviced.

The serial number label is located under the bottom case shell. This is normal for MAX and MAX 2/II detectors. The top and bottom case pieces snap off revealing the true detector housing underneath. The unit will electronically display the serial number by holding down the MUTE and MRK buttons while powering it on (remember M&M).

thanks for the responses. I was out of town for about a week. I ended up calling them about a week ago. They said they'd exchange it but I'd rather not deal with sending it back if it is actually new. It's just the 2 small scratches on the cover that I can't see when it's on the windshield. Since they say it doesn't affect performance I'd rather not have to deal with mailing this back and waiting for a new one. Haven't had my car in a week, took my mount off for no reason since I didn't end up driving so tried to get it as straight as I can without it messing with my compass. We'll continue to see how it does

So been running about a week. Had a very weak legit k hit in town, good thing I wasn't speeding testing it out. And a couple ka hits on the highway. Enough time to knock it down a couple mph but a little scary. Really probably about the same as my x70 but nice to have the auto lockouts. Guess we'll see how it does. Be nice to find someone with a gun and really test it.

Does the separate speaker the one in the "accessories" page work with this unit? It's tough to hear with the radio up and the window cracked down? Just don't want to blow it super early I called and ordered this from escort directly. Anyone know if there is a way to see the date of manufacture? based off serial number? Had to change a speaker on my x70 and it had an "inspected" sticker on the inside.

Thanks for the link, good to know. I don't want to open it up incase it would void warranty. I'm thinking I'm goona call escort tomorrow if I have time and exchange it. Really don't want to have to deal with sending it back and then waiting and having to go to the fedex place to re get it. I've just had a few poor detections and combine that with the couple light scratches. Who knows if they dropped it at the factory and that is why or just scratched it without messing anything up and this is all the range the unit has. The lockouts are nice, but I get the same and some occasions better range with my x70 and old cobra from back in the day. If this is all the range these are good for I guess that is what it is, but with it showing up out of the box scratched I don't know if it's running properly. I know there there's other units out there with better range but got this because of the cost and auto unlearn re learn lockouts. At this point almost wishing I would have gone another direction, I could manually do lockouts-wouldn't trust myself with as many, but I like the auto unlearn so when signals drift it unlearns, otherwise you'd end up locking out all of k band to get one signal locked out. But to be able to do mrcd/ct would be nice to since it seems it's showing up. But yeah, I'll call them and see if I can get a "new" one without scratches that will hopefully be working properly and take the unit for what it is. I know there's other units with better range but I just want to make sure I have a NEW UNIT THAT'S WORKING PROPERLY
