Has there been any news on an update for this problem yet? Any updates?

Turbo -

I haven't seen any postings yet. There's a section on the main page of the forum titled "Escort Radar Announcements'. I check this every few days as previous firmware updates for their products have been announced in that section.

I'm waiting too

You're lucky. Most of us can't turn off K band.

Maybe I'm paranoid but I swear the state police where I am used to run Ka all the time but the past few encounters I've had have been with K band. It almost makes me think they know about the current K band confusion with detector users. They used K band years ago and then switched to Ka units. They used the Ka units exclusively for 7-8 years but now they're back to using K band guns. Why else would they go back to K band if not to take advantage of the current BSM situation?

The way it is for you now (no falsing to worry about) is the way it used to be for those of us who ran the original Cincinnati Microwave Escort. We owned the roads back then because LEO would run CO and when the detector alerted, it was always LEO.

You had to be deaf, dumb and blind to get caught by radar in those days. And laser wasn't even on the horizon yet.

I think your giving them way too much credit, the guy in their purchasing department could give a crap about false K band alerts. He probably has no idea what that even is. As far as what your agency runs, could be a number of things. Our city buys stationary handheld Decatur directional K band guns. This is because they are cheap, about 400 bucks each when you buy 20 or more. A moving digital KA dual antenna system is probably 4 grand, to a bean counter it's simple economics. Plus maybe there is a new commander in charge of purchases and he thinks he will score some points by saving money. So he comes in under budget and buys a moving K band system instead of a KA.

What you're saying certainly makes sense. I didn't think of it that way so I Googled after I read your post and you're right. K band guns are less than half the cost of Ka band guns (for used units that you can buy on Ebay).

I'm sure costs are higher for new guns and what you're saying has to be closer to the truth than LEO considering the BSM situation.

Still, the switch back to K guns stinks. There aren't many (or any) false alerts to Ka in my area so when my detector chirps "Ka", I pay attention.

Since I've been running the iX and Max, I can't believe I lived so long with my old 8500. I couldn't tell which end was up when it would alert to K band.
