Don't bother. Detector firmware does not reside in Detector Tools. Neither does the database. When you update your detector Detector Tools downloads and installs them from our servers. There is no way to load older firmware or databases onto any of our detectors. The only reason I asked before because I was curious how bxter thought he was doing this.

You should want to test it on your 9500ix. If it fails a full calibration test and issues the message after the update then it is not detecting properly. There are plenty of people here that will attest that the software update itself does not break the detector. There's works fine afterwards. It simply finds and reports any existing issues. If there is no existing issue then you can update it over and over all day without a problem.
From what I understood from the OP, his 9500ix flashed Power Reset after he used DT 1.11.81 to update its software to the most current version. I also understand that when that happens (and continues) it's time to send it in for service. Everything he tried did not help (as expected) until he used an old version of DT 1.8.8 to reload the most current Software. This inexplicably seemed to resolve the issue for him.

Now I know neither the Software nor Database are contained in DT (new or old version) and I know that using the old version of DT with the latest 9500ix should not do anything to resolve the issue, but in the off chance it could do something, I was curious to have something to try in case my 9500ix should ever flash Power Reset, because it's unlikely I'd send it in to get fixed as opposed to just replace it with a MAX. It's just me trying to extend the life of my 9500ix as long as possible, as I enjoyed from the minute I plugged it in (a pre-release purchase) to this day. It still performs as good as any detector I have owned.

Hello,

I am trying to find out more details about the POWER RESET issues on the 9500ix models.

I was reading through this thread and the statement
Quote:
POWER RESET on the detector has absolutely nothing to do with the database
caught me eye. Interesting you mention this because of my situation. Here is what has happened so far:
- I have a blue display 9500ix that started showing POWER RESET around the start of the year. It also wasn't picking up any radars/lasers/signals and only alerting for "speed traps" and some red light cameras.
- I called in to Escort to get help on this and WANTED to send in my unit for repair. The representative on the phone I spoke with instructed me NOT to do so, mentioning it would be basically pointless (paraphrasing), and told me to run Detector Tools for updates and this resolves it.
- I was hesitant about the response, and voiced my concerns that I want to make sure my unit works as desired. The representative assured me that the update takes care of it and I will be functioning as usual afterwards.
- So I get off the phone and update the detector via USB & the software. For the first couple weeks it started working what seemed like usual. At times though it would throw a POWER RESET though. Typically I would unplug the cord, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in to resolve the error.
- This went on for a couple more months. I did a handful more updates via the software during those times in my understanding at the time, per the rep, that it helps with the POWER RESET issue and gets the radar working as desired again.
- Fast forward to a road trip I took sometime in April. At the start of the trip the unit alerted on a few real threats and everything seemed to be working fine. I kind of tuned out paying attention to how often and what bands were being alerted after a few hours. The radar display was showing my speed (what I have it set to display) and had GPS lock. All of a sudden lets just say I may or may not have been in a situation where a STALKER DUAL was aimed at me repeatedly over a 5+ mile long stretch with NO ALERT. The 9500ix just kept purring along, showing speed, GPS lock, etc..... like nothing was going on.
- I didn't use the unit for the rest of the trip, or the return trip back; about 800 miles out of a total 1,400 mile round trip. I had no trust in the unit anymore at this time.
- I got back home, thinking this may be related to the POWER RESET issues I've had start of the year and sporadically since. So I plugged my 9500ix into my PC, ran detector tools to update as I was still under the assumption that the update process would resolve whatever may have happened from speaking with Escort support.
- Being cautious and paying very close attention to what the detector was doing after that I noticed that it would very often miss alerts and such. The POWER RESET screen would come up more frequently over time: at first once a week, then a couple times a week, soon once a day, then 2-3 times a day, then every couple hours, every hour, and eventually back to constant every ~5-20 minutes as when it initially started happening. Basically rendering the unit useless. I removed it from the car and have not used it since (~1-2 months).

Needless to say I was not happy at all about this situation, but that is neither here nor there. I am trying to figure out what happened, what is going on, what can I do to trust the Escort brand again and my radar detector???

I've been a LOOONG time Escort costumer and have had great success with my units. Previously had a couple 8500s and multiple SRX fully installed in my previous cars. I even used to work at one of your authorized retailers offering the SRX units and install as a sales manager. The 9500ix worked amazingly at first and for the first few years I had it. So well that I ended selling the SRXes and had my wife use the older 8500 and I used the 9500ix.

So I know it is a long read, but you seem like you know your stuff with the 9500ix units, the POWER RESET issues occurring with them, the Detector Tools software, and so forth. Hence I wanted to reach out to you in hopes for some clarity here and suggestions on next steps. I hope you can understand my hesitation from my previous Escort support interaction described above. I had some time tonight and wanted to do a bit of research into this and understand better what happened. I really love the Escort brand and have for many years. As you can see I've been a long time member and first time posting today. I've read a few other threads on different forums and groups that mentioned having ran into something potentially similar and the POWER RESET screen but nothing concrete or with any good information. I came across this thread and noticed your posts, and specifically the above quoted statement and figured it's worth it to reach out to someone who is related to the brand and knowledgeable in the topic.

Please let me know if you have any insight, details, potential next steps, and can help me out.

Thank you

Hello bambams247,

Are you using the original smart cord which came with your 9500ix? Have you tried a different (newer) smart cord? Have you ever opened your 9500ix?

Best regards,

I've used the smart cord I purchased with the unit and tried the regular cord that comes with it as well for power. Same results with either cord. Never knew a "newer" version exists.

Same problem ... 5 years old ... Biggest frustration was the 15 min. wait on hold, listening to "We will get to you shortly", and no one ever did ... Guess this is the standard failure mode of the 9500 ...
