Thumbs down IX Useless K band Filtering

I loved escort all these years until I bought the new IX. I do like the unit and most features, HOWEVER, I don't know what to do about the horrid K band filtering. Even on AutoLoK the alarms are so ridiculous I cannot leave the K band on anymore. In reading this forum and other sources, it is not an uncommon complaint. I thought of trading in my 4 month old detector but they only give $80-$120. I feel like I have been totally taken advantage of by Escort to put out this product with such a huge defect. Yes, defect because one of the most important features after detecting radar is to eliminate false radar. My kid and my wife have the 9500ix and it is so much quieter and detects quite well... So are there any other Escort choices or is this k band filtering something Escort does not have a handle on yet. If you call the sales office you get different answers every time you call so they are not helpful at all. What to do... Thoughts?

The IX will filter much better then the older 9500ix. That said the IVT filtering in the all digital Max line of detectors is much better. The reason is the IX is not all digital. You might make sure you have the latest firmware installed and see if that helps.

I'd have to agree with the above.

If the iX is much noisier than the 9500ix then something isn't right. Are you using them in the same vehicle (maybe using the iX in a car with a BSM emitter while the 9500ix is in an older vehicle)?

Also per the above, the K filtering on the all-digital MAX line is night & day better.

Where are you positioning the unit on your Windshield?

Also do you have it in auto sensitivity? Is TSR on?

The iX was my first detector. I did a lot of research at the time and bought the relatively new iX based upon reviews and the spec sheet. At the time, I figured I did not need to spend another $200 to get "arrows" on the 360. While the words "updatable IVT filter" were all over the Escort iX spec sheet and the marketing materials, there was nothing out there about the iX having analog circuitry and the 360 having digital circuitry. It wasn't until I started seeing complaints in the forums about the large number of false detections on the BSM systems that I first saw the topic about analog vs digital. In the Denver area, there are K band traffic monitoring systems along I-25 and 470 and those, also, result in false detections that the iX cannot filter out. As anyone who has watched the forum discussions here and on other sites, there as never been an IVT filter update nor do I ever expect to see one for the iX. In fact, the iX has now been replaced with the iXC.

I've used the iX in four different vehicles I own and ended up installing a Blendmount in each of them. I have also used them in rental cars with the window suction cup attachment. I believe I have had great detection in each and every vehicle...no concerns about NOT picking up a radar signal. I will mention, on the rare occasion, I picked up a Laser detection in the BMW in places that would not have a laser stakeout and I believe that was feedback noise from the BMW electrical system. The iX has kept me ticket free for two years and for that, I am happy.

I am not happy with the inability to screen out the large quantity of K band detections. I can appreciate this must be a difficult task for the manufacturer. That said, advertising a unit as having an upgradeable IVT filter and then never issuing an IVT update filter to it throughout the life of the product is just plain wrong. I would have easily paid the extra $200 for the 360 two years ago if the comparison charts had differentiated between a non-updatable IVT filter (iX) and an updatable IVT filter (360). If the comparison chart had pointed out that one was analog based and one was digital based, that might have swayed me to spend the extra $200. I generally drive by myself and have adjusted to the constant K band alerts; when I do drive with a passenger, those alerts typically drive them nuts and they cannot question why I would even use the detector if that is the way it is all the time.

I've read some good reviews on the 360C, particularly from those who have used the 360C after having used the iX. The improvement in the IVT filtering capability has me interested in trying the 360C. To be honest, I have spent more money on the four Blendmount installations than I spent on the iX and if it wasn't for the sunk cost of the Blendmounts, I'd be trying a different brand next. And, FWIW, if I never had the expectation to get an IVT update, I'd probably not have a complaint about never getting one (that's for the marketing department!).
