I am having problems updating my Escort Passport SC55. I do have detector tools version 1.8.8. I do not have any marked locations in my usint, since I have not come across any red-light cameras when I drive. Detector tools can not merge any since I don't have any, and I receive the message that tells me to start over. I start the process over again and receive the same message! The other part of the program is that it checks for updates, there are not any. What do I do!! I live in Phoenix where there are practically no cameras at all. One person actually shot at a camera here, and killed the person inside a van that was parked next to the camera.
Anyways, I would appreciate any help on how to update my unit? I am using windows 7 -64 bit on my computer, operating system. I have the Passport hooked up with the Redline Radar Detector. Thanks, Sincerely, Frank Schranz ![]() |

It should still update, or merge, Defender on your SC55 if you have not marked any locations.
With your SC55 connected to your computer's USB port, does Detector Tools display your SC55's serial number in the upper right side of the screen? If not then try another USB port on your computer and try again. If you still have problems then, while in front of your computer with the SC55, please call us at the number in my signature below. When you start Detector Tools and you see the "no update available" message on the splash screen with the police car's lights flashing this means that there is no update for the Detector Tools application itself. If there was an update then you would get a window asking if you want to install it.

Thanks, for replying to my thread. Yes, my serial number does display properly in the upper right hand corner of detector tools. I have not had my Passport long, so I am still new at this. I tried it again and my detector did update, however when it got to merging my marked locations with the Escort Defender database, it stopped and gave me the message to start over again. Since there are no marked locations to merge, the updating process is completed except for that part.
Thanks for your help, Frank schranz |

That's odd. The next time that you use the SC55 try marking a location somewhere then try merging Defender again. Please let me know what the results are. Thank you

I deleted detector tools, re installed the program, went driving around town and marked a location. I just tried to update the passport sc55 and recived the same message error downloading reading my marked locations. I am going to try to mark another location and see what happens when I try to update my unit again.

Don't forget that you have to have Administrator privaleges as detector tools is attempting to write a file to your computer. |

Frank you have to power up the SC55 while connected to your computer, not just the USB cable. LARRY needs to get involved here. Larry is from Escort. Again I have never marked any locations in my SC55 and when updating it goes through Merging Locations anyway and completes. Perhaps you will need to remove all locations or do a reset on the SC55, LARRY? Clearing the Data Base Procedure is on page 13 of my owners manual. Look it up and give it a try. If you still getting error code call service department.

Due to all the different variables between computers, I recommend calling us to try to solve this issue. Be sure to be in front of your computer with the SC55 when you call us so that they can walk through this. The number is in my signature below.
Whether you have marked locations or not shouldn't matter. That was simply something to try. You can also try deleting your SC55's database then reloading as buckdharma pointed. You can do this using Detector Tools "Advanced" tab. Thank you Larry

I removed everything in my Passports database. Then I used Detector Tools to update my unit. Much to my amazement, the updating process completed successfully. The database is current as of 4/30/12.
Thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciated it, when I was stuck and could not update my unit successfully. Frank. |
