USB power?

So, I have a cigarette lighter adapter that has dual USB ports. I'd like to make/find a cord that will power my radar detector via USB and charge my phone or any other usb type device at the same time. How hard would it be to convert the current Escort power adapter to USB? Any ideas?

Danoelise, I don't think that there is enough voltage available on USB to power-up Radar Detectors that use the cigarette lighter socket. For example, the 9500ix requires 12V DC; I don't know what the max current is. The maximum voltage found on USB cables is 5V DC, and a maximum current of 900 mA.

In short, there's just not enough power on a USB port to run most RDs, (not excluding battery-operated ones, of course). You can consider the SmartCord Live! cable, though.
