Is Escort ever going to release this application for the Droid or Apple Platform?

It is very possible that we will develop Defender applications for both Android and iPhone platforms.

There is a deep seated phobia at Escort when it comes to any Apple products. Probably starts with the Chief of Command and trickles down the pyramid. My guess, is a tried and true Windows fan. As you may or may not know, the 9500ix can be compatible with a wide range of computer platforms including Apple. But remains a product for a segmented market. And they could have been done cross platform a long time ago. But the muckity-mucks at Escort don't want to take the leap due to fear of the unfamiliar territory. Fear that they well find the Apple platform a much easier and more stable platform.
They've been promising for over a year now to work with Apple and they have come no closer to appease the many Apple cliental, then to string them along. To bad - since Escort will continue to be limited until they think outside their insulated box. |

Interesting how Escort writes a program for the nearly dead in the water, Blackberry before writing RD software for the fast growing Apple base.

And now, every day we are reading about Android quickly overtaking iPhone. Microsoft's true competitor is not even out yet. My point here is that the same reason Apple is seeing "overnight" success in the smart phone space makes it very easy for a competitor to come along and change the mobile landscape "overnight". Coming out with a new phone platform is nothing like getting the lions share of enterprise OS marketshare (like Windows currently has), and with the way the general public always wants something shiny and new, I think the smart phone industry is destined to become very fragmented. Now, if someone comes out with a software development kit that lets me write the app once, and deploy it to all smartphones with little hassle, it makes a good case to go that way. Right now Apple has made every part of developing iPhone apps painful, I have to test BB apps on a gazillion different phone models (and that last statement applies to Android as well). Microsoft is where it is today because of the emphasis on the developer experience (Apple has yet to find a clue here). That's what attracts app writers to a platform, and because of that I expect MS's offering long term will catch up (and if history repeats) surpass the competition. |
