No offense bigwes as I see you live under Virginia's Radar Detector lock down rule, but lifting the RD ban might be considered the final step in assimilation into the Union.
You know land of the FREE? Although I find it hard to find a place to speed in DC. Maybe they will repeal the unconstitutional law. Aren't we supposed to be allowed to receive radio transmissions? If they put up speed cams then LEO will have time to really enforce the law.

Virginia will remain the only state in the nation where radar detectors are illegal.

A bill to repeal the state’s 48-year-old ban on the devices was defeated Thursday by the House of Delegates, 61-38.

The sponsor of HB674, Del. Joe May, R-Leesburg, argued that the ban is inhospitable to visitors and that radar detectors enhance traffic safety by encouraging motorists to slow down.

But the majority of delegates were swayed by opponents’ arguments that the devices contribute to excessive speed.

The state police opposed the measure.

“Speed on the roads of the commonwealth is a major problem,” said Del. Manoli Loupassi, R-Richmond. “I don’t think we ought to be passing laws that make our roads less safe

Va is a state that I will never go to or through. Especially for vacation. Virginia is for suckers.

Another example of "GOVERNMENT OUT OF CONTROL". Several Polls have consistently shown that the great majority of Virginia citizens believe that this "ban" is ridiculous, and most think it's "unconstitutional." Public airways are not the property of GOVERNMENT; they are "public domain." Governments can legitimately restrict transmission on certain frequencies in order to fulfill government functions, but Governments cannot restrict "receiving" on any frequency.

Why do you think you need a "proprietary descrambler" to get Satellite TV? It's because, long ago, the Supreme Court ruled that you can not stop a citizen from "receiving" satellite frequencies or any other frequencies. If something on those frequencies is "proprietary" is the responsibility of the "transmitting entity" to take measures to protect that propriety. Do you think a Radio Station has "standing" in our Legal System if they decide you must pay them to listen to their Station and you refuse to do so?

What's next; is the State or Federal Government going to make it illegal to listen to "law enforcement frequencies"? Are they going to make the manufacture of "radar detectors" illegal just as they are trying to do with GUNS? If a State or Federal Government wants its "laser, radar, radio or any other emissions" to be undetectable, it's there responsibility to figure out how.

Every society that has transitioned from FREEDOM to Totalitarian Rule lost their freedoms gradually, one little step at a time, until one day they realized they were no longer FREE. But, by then, of course, THEY WERE SCREWED!

RULED, but NOT SERVED..............that's where we're headed, and we're almost there.

Well put. If you put a frog in a pot of water he will swim to his hearts content. If you turn on the heat and slowly bring it to a boil he will not even jump out but will die. Just like the frog our freedoms are being chipped away and the water's getting hotter.
I find it rather telling that this proven relatively simple and cheap technology has gone untapped by governments while revenue generating cameras have spread like wildfire even in the face of reports which question their effectiveness at increasing safety
You are correct about questionable safety. Virginia Beach has gone hog wild with red light cams, and rear end collisions have dramatically increases because of them. It's not about safety at all, it's all about the Benjamin's.
