My 9500ci is not working properly.

I have had it for 3+ years and it recently gave a "Check Receiver Wiring" error message. I doubled check all connections, including the inline connections, made sure the wiring was not bent or kinked, update firmware..... and still have problems. It worked for an hour after re-establishing connections, and then nothng. I turned off GPS to insure that I did not have areas "marked", ............no good.

Does anyone know if Escort has an analysis software that will test the system via the UBS connection/laptop?

I did notice a couple of past threads with similar issue and they state that it may need to be sent to service. Do you simply send the front receiver or do you remove all parts to send in? Any idea what a front receiver replacement costs?

Last year I bought the 9500ix. While running amongst traffic on the interstates it was very quiet right up to the point when I pass in front of the state trooper. Then for some reason he uses instant-on with me. Mind you this has been tested in several states. My only conclusion is I am terribly unlucky or they are using RDD and my 9500ix is screaming to them wait, I'm getting closer, almost there, OK NOW!!!

So dissapointed I couldn't trust the 9500ix I shelled out another $500+ for the REDLINE and EL. I really like the stealth and was just wishing I had the ability to detect the known RDD. Then that would be just one more tool in my arsenal to find them before they used Instant-On. I'm not sure if that would be in the form of a simple firmware upgrade or a hardware issue.

Any thoughts are welcome.

I bought my 9500i alittle over 2 years ago. It worked great way better then anticipated. It work awesome for about 2 years and then one day it started missing radar signals or only alerting when the source was a stone throw from my vehicle. I call customer service for repair and the guy on the line suggested I upgrade to the 9500ix so I sent it in for the up grade. When I received it back it did not work any better ,no range about 100 yards tops. So I sent it back they ran tests and adjusted the antanna and sent it back to me. My detector picks up the K band Ok, not as well as it use to,but the Ka signal only has about a 100 yard range. Has anyone had a problem like this? I'm getting frustrated with this detector. Do these wear out after time and just need replaced?

It's a well-established fact that the iPhone's built-in GPS is not the best, especially with older phones. Some time ago I purchased the TomTom GPS cradle which, even on the newest iPhone, provides superior GPS performance even when using a non-TomTom app (like Navigon).

I'm uncertain if the TomTom dock somehow "replaces" the iPhone's own GPS at a low level such that all GPS-enabled apps are aware of it, or if apps need to somehow be programmed to take advantage of it. That said, I'm curious if there are any users who have both the TomTom iPhone cradle and Live! and can tell me if there's a difference in accuracy either way.

… AFTER a radar source is gone?

Senerio: 8500 x50 or Redline using Escort Live

Let's say you have a construction ahead warning sign running radar and it's on your normal route and you just don't want to receive alerts, so you lock it out. A couple of months later the construction project is done and the DOT takes away the sign. Now what? How do you unlock that location?

On the 9500ix, it will unlearn after a few passes, but when using a non-GPS RD I think you can only unlock an alert with the EL DURING a lockout alert, but of course I won't be getting an alert anymore. So, you can't unlock with a right swipe or unlock button on the screen.

What about using the 3x mute button? Would that work despite there being no "muted" locked alert?

Requested Features for Next Redline Firmware Update

1. BS/RDR - of course! :)

2. I would like the "voice alerts" for SPC, RLC, speed traps, other, etc. loaded into the Redlne just like the radar and laser alerts. I may not always have my iPhone running audio through BT to my car audio system (like if I'm listening to the radio or using a rental car). The "beep" does get my attention, but I'd rather hear the voice alert like with the 9500ix. I plan on using an external speaker once I get a more permanent install so I don't have to rely on the audio from the iPhone. I would hope the RL has enough memory to add these additional voice alerts.

3. Can we have changed the display for Speed Trap Alerts? I know this may be nit-picking, but I don't care for the "sTrap" message. What the heck is that? I think having the message read "SPDtrap" or "SPD Trap" would be easier to interpret the first time you see it. I think there's enough LEDs to provide a more descriptive message. Let's use that display space and not be so cryptic! ;)

4. Can the distance to the marked location be displayed on the RL display when using EL like the 9500ix does? I would think the iPhone over BT could provide the GPS data to display the "countdown" to the marked location. Not sure though.

5. Did I say BS/RDR? - Hey, I had to round this out to be a "top 5" list! :D

RL users, feel free to agree or disagree and add your own requests.

I'm curious if the design of the new SmartCord Live hardwire will allow for more increased installation flexibility and better aesthetics.

With the current design, people have to get pretty darn creative to get a clean looking install. In my own car, I gutted an unused switch plate and drilled holes for the LEDs and mute button, and hot-glued the circuit board in place. It looks nearly stock and I don't have some "growth" coming out of my dash.

My aftermarket Bluetooth kit mounts through a hole in the dash. This meant I could put it anywhere it would fit, and the low profile buttons made for a very clean install. No velcro, no screws, no little box that "doesn't quite belong there".

I would love to see a Smartcord that doesn't require as much creativity to make it look good than the current design. Please? ;)

For reference, here is the kit I have in my own car. It comes in two versions, one that snaps right in place of your cigarette lighter socket, and one that requires a hole drilled. The buttons are backlit and have a great "click" and the same texture as the other buttons/switches in the car. It's difficult to tell it's not a factory part, which I really like.

Here is what I did to my own SmartCord:

To avoid looking like this:

Hey Guys... what gives?

I just opened my new 9500ix, purchased from Best Buy.

The mount included in the kit seems to be the wrong mount.

The grooves/slots that are cut into the sheetmetal mount do not line up with the rubber tabs that are part of the radar detector case. The slots on the mount, I assume, should allow the two rubber tabs to poke through to allow the mount to "lock-into position". The slot openings are not cut long enough to allow the tabs to protrube. The rubber tabs are setting under the sheet metal. So the mount never locks in. It slides in and out at will. It never is retained.

Am I seeing this right?.... Griff
